Car Care REPs introduction

I go by the name of fAcety wAyne and I am pleased to bring you informative automotive news, tips and updates. I’m making this blog comprehensive so even if you are a seasoned car enthusiast or just a weekend driver you’ll be able to get some useful information from it. Being that we have just embarked into the spring season, I figured what better way to start things off than getting your ride ready for spring.

This undoubtedly has to be one of the harshest winters we’ve had on the East Coast in years. With months of snow, ice and torrential rain your car is in desperate need of some loving care. Here is a checklist of to do’s to get your ride ready:

Brake Check
After a harsh winter you want your brakes to be thoroughly checked. The salt from winter roads can eat through your brakes like termites to wood. Listen out for the telltale signs of worn or wearing brakes. This would be the squealing, screeching or excessive grinding that you hear. More annoying than nails on a chalkboard.

Underbody Check
Another area where salt can build up on your vehicle is underneath your car. This salt is corrosive and can eat away at your car if not treated. Use a garden hose or high-pressure spray to remove any salt build up from your cars under carriage.

Change of Oil
Now, this goes without saying. For those of you who have been driving way past the recommend 3K miles sticker on your windshield without an oil change, your car is the one that’s suffering; especially if you do a lot of city driving. For those of you that use thinner oil in the winter (because of cold starts) its time to change back to 10W30 for warmer weather. But be sure to use the manufacture’s recommended oil type for your vehicle. So if your manufacture recommends synthetic oil for that X5, use only synthetic!

Check all your fluids
During winter months your cars fluids can be depleted easily. So make sure you check all your reservoirs. Anti-Freeze, Windshield washer fluid, Brake fluid, Power steering fluid, Transmission fluid and Oil.

Interior
A lot of people don’t realize how important it is to take care of their cars interior. After getting in and out of your ride with snow covered boots your interior takes a beating as well. Make sure to vacuum any salt or road debris that could be left behind in your vehicle. Be sure to use a protectant on your dashboard and seats (if you have leather of course). This will ensure that your interior will last longer and shine brighter.

Wash on Wax off
Last but not least Grasshopper… What good is all that maintenance unless your baby is looking squeaky clean afterwards? Depending on what type of wash you like i.e. hand-wash, car-wash, detail-wash, etc., the last thing on my checklist is wash and wax your ride. The wash will remove all the grit and grime and the wax will protect your paint and ensure that your hood is shining.

There are a lot of products out there that will achieve various results. We will get into that the next time we take a spin.
