Accessories that make your ride Tight

Start your engines & lets take a trip on the road to the right car accessories. Now you may be asking yourself, “Right car accessories??” Does this mean there are wrong accessories?? This sure does my fellow car culture representatives. The key thing to remember is that what may be the right accessories for you may be a totally wrong accessory for someone else. What this means is that your choice of accessories should reflect your personality and tastes. One particular accessory itself doesn’t define a car’s look it’s a collaboration of car accessories that make up the D.N.A of any vehicles style.

Accessory products are grouped into 2 primary categories: Function and Aesthetics. Some accessory parts offer better/more functionality to your factory-outfitted auto. While other products enhance the look and feel of your auto but serve no working function. These 2 categories of accessory products have 2 sectors: Exterior Parts and Interior Parts. To start lets go over Interior products. Like the human body, beauty starts from the inside then permeates outward.

If you have a factory interior that looks lets say…. factory, you can readily change the look and literally change the feel of your interior with the use of Dash Trim Kits. Dash Trim kits are easy to install using very little to no tools. Dash Trim Kits come in a variety of finishes and textures (i.e. Wood Grain). One of the things I love about these kits is that you can get molded covers for your window switches. This greatly enhances your interiors panoramic spectrum. Dash Trim Kits are made for the make, model and year of a particular vehicle – manufactures have almost every major auto’s dash template covered. So finding one for your car shouldn’t be too difficult, unless you’re like my friend still driving that rare vintage AMC Pacer. (Sorry, Allistar I’m still searching for a template out there for you to pimp that inside out.)

You can choose to stop there with the pursuit to interior happiness, but if this is not enough styling justice don’t stop there. Here is a short list of items that you can purchase to change your autos interior. Foot Pedals, Shift Knob Changers and Interior lights (Interior lights – an item that is highly underrated). Like an interior decorator would say no interior is complete without the proper lighting. Your cars interior is no different. Accent lighting can dramatically change the mood of your cars interior during night riding (Yeah, I loved that show too). Foot Pedals can range any where from $48-$200. Shift knobs can range from $55-$180. LED interior lights can range from $20-$50.

Moving outward to the exterior of your vehicle. The law of right and wrong accessories holds true for your cars exterior as well. The exterior accessories that are right for you are accessories that you personally identify with. It’s no different than dressing. You wear footwear? Well your ride should have the right shoes (rims) too. Some of us prefer to wear Nike ACG kicks while others opt for Stan-Smith Addidas styling, its all about preference and taste. Aftermarket Grilles are one of the key components to giving your exterior a pronounced styling look. There are a myriad of options to choose from: Billet Styles, Mesh Styles, Custom Styles, etc. Choose which type best fits your personality. Your Grille is what most people see first in their rear view mirror. Because of the multitude of options, you may have a hard time choosing which Grille style works best for you. To help you decide try using this analogy, if you tapped someone on the shoulder how do you want to be seen once they turn around? Molding accents are another product that you can use to enhance the exterior of your vehicle. Moldings are used to accent wheel wells, door panels and your door pillars. From a side view perspective these accessories will dramatically change the look of your ride. You may choose to use one of these suggestions or opt for all of them at once. It’s all about what works personally for you. Rims avg. price range is from $1200-$5500. Average Grille pricing ranges from $150-$1000. Moldings average prices range from $30-$100 (fyi – A lot of side moldings fit autos universally).

What’s good about the law of accessories is, it evolves. As we grow, learn more, and mature our personal tastes usually grows as well. This is so true in the world of car culture. At one point in life you may be in love with a candy colored blow pop green paint job at another point in time you may yearn for that murdered out look. Whatever your preference, make sure it’s a reflection of you. Until our next episode REP-YOUR-HOOD.
